Art Movements: memento mori

This study began when I was looking at older Final Destination posters. I saw the poster below and instantly thought it felt: Struzan.

 

What felt “Struzan” about the poster was the use of the memento mori motif. Remembering that death comes for us.

With Struzan, he often uses memento mori to remind us that death “could” come for the heroes in the story.

Or than death will come for many:

Struzan’s use of skulls are used to quickly sell the audience on a sense of danger, and genre (almost all of his posters for pirate movies feature skeletons).
